Curriculum statement
New Curriculum 2014
Marlbrook, Little Dewchurch and Ewyas Harold Primary School.
Our schools are committed to meeting the requirements of the new primary curriculum from September 2014. Our teachers have received training in the key areas of curriculum change and we are ready to provide outstanding curriculum provision.
The curriculum will be taught with the consideration of the needs of all learners. Our curriculum will be engaging and will inspire children to nurture a passion through learning.
Across all 4 schools we use the Story Worlds Reading Scheme, in addition to Project X and All Aboard.
We use the "Letters and Sounds" approach to embed phonic skills, supplemented with Jolly Phonics.
At Marlbrook and Little Dewchurch Primary school it will be taught through an ‘integrated’ approach which will allow us to ensure stimulating learning opportunities throughout the school. Ewyas Harold Primary school staff will participate in training this year so they can begin to deliver the ‘integrated’ curriculum from September 2015. At present they are delivering the curriculum as separate subjects with an emphasis of ensuring cross-curricular links where appropriate.
Little Dewchurch C of E School benefits from close links with St David's Church. Children attend church services at St David's at Harvest, Christmas, Easter, Ash Wednesday and other special occasions. The Rev Peter Houghton is closely involved in the spiritual life of the school and our collective worship. He is on the Governing Body and is a frequent visitor to the school.
As a Church of England school the values of kindness, care, forgiveness and compassion are rooted in Christian teaching and explored at every opportunity during collective worship and RE lessons. They impact on all learners and enable them to flourish as individuals, whether they are Christian, of other faiths, or of no faith.
